What’s New!

Mount Hood Gardens Monthly Newsletter • AUGUST

Last month, I took a short trip to Germany to visit my parents, family and friends. Although we planned to visit the world-famous Planten un Blomen Botanical Gardens in Hamburg, which are a favorite of my father’s, uncommonly sweltering, humid temperatures severely dampened our enthusiasm. However, my sister and I did visit a close by fabulous garden center. Surprisingly it was buzzing with activity despite the heat. See photos below.

On Sunday, July 18th, the Perennial Plant Association (PPA), one of the professional organizations I belong to, visited Hood River and the Gorge prior to the main international conference that took place in Portland the following week. Over 80 people descended on Mount Hood Gardens. Attendees were very impressed with our colorful stock beds and tidy nursery. They were also taken with the office and my serene studio. Following a delicious lunch at Good News Gardening, we toured the downtown parks designed and installed by us. Participants also had a chance to view the lush, natural plantings at Willow Ponds.

With summer finally here, business has slowed to a comfortable pace for a little while. I am busy creating numerous designs for installation this fall. We are presently building an elaborate patio landscape with curving walls and mortared Bluestone steps in the Hood River Valley. Once completed, we will immediately start another stone patio project nearby.

Make time to treasure the beauty of summer, our nice, comfortable evenings, and crisp mornings.
